Consent is Now Required!
At the most recent Contributor meeting, the overall feedback for the website was very positive. It seems everyone is excited to have an updated website and fresh new design. However, there was some concern expressed over the loss of the “age verification” page that previously existed.
Initially, the age verification page was left off the rebuild as it was no longer effective by today’s standards. It was only seen if someone came to the website from the home page URL (capex.info), but it was bypassed if they had arrived at any other page. As search engines will index any number of pages within a website, it was more likely that you would land on the About page rather than the Home page when coming from Google. If indeed such a mechanism was to be put into place, it needed to cover all the access points.
Well CAPEXIANS, you were heard!
The website has been updated with a new “Consent Dialog” that will greet you the first time you arrive at the site. It doesn’t matter what page you enter the website – if you have not yet clicked “I CONSENT”, you simply will not be able to access the content.
Even if you are one of those tech-wizs that knows how to bypass such measures, the Consent Dialog language states that continuing past the dialog you are providing consent. Yep, we’ve covered that base as well.

By choosing “I CONSENT” or continuing past this dialog, you certify that you are of legal age in your jurisdiction, are not offended by mature information, and agree to the website’s Privacy Policy, which includes the use of cookies and any other information collected on this website.
Otherwise, please choose “EXIT NOW”.
The Consent Dialog
Not only does this provide language for legal adults only and mature content, it also covers some of the more up to date issues we face with an online presence. New policies dictated by the GDPR and CCPA acts and regulations now require a solid privacy policy that explains what information is collected and how it is used. The Consent Dialog gives the user the opportunity to review, and by consenting, they have agreed to the established Privacy Policy for the website.
With this new approach, we are killing a few birds with one stone!
— although we are not advocating any sorts of animal harm, mind you!
Now, so that none of us are getting annoyed with having to consent all the time, this is actually managed by a small cookie saved on your device that allows the Consent Dialog to know you have already agreed. The cookie lasts a year, so you won’t be bombarded all the time. Well… almost.
Up Next…
Coming soon will be a new Terms of Use policy to cover the website, and the Consent Dialog will be updated to include that as well. Once this is complete, and the Consent Dialog text is updated, the associated cookie will be reset – so yes, you will have to consent one more time this year – but it should cover up any loose ends and help make everyone feel just a bit more secure.
